Piccadilly Station (fringe)
Daksha Patel, a Manchester-based artist, has developed an exciting new commission for Piccadilly rail station and the Cornerhouse working with Manchester Metropolitan University and The Hamilton Project. Her work looks at the ways in which people construct and move within cities and how they are in turn affected by the cities they inhabit. By mapping recorded urban activity onto biological structures (combining GIS technology & datasets with internal body imaging) she connects discreet areas of scientific enquiry and data visualisation. This results in a series of striking drawings which are both beautiful and intriguing and which show the connections between ourselves and our environments in new and surprising ways.
The work will be presented in lightboxes on the Metrolink tram platforms at Manchester Piccadilly rail station and around the Cornerhouse building.
Diffusion is funded by Arts Council of England North West and Transport for Greater Manchester and is part of the ATM11 fringe programme.
