Memories
1 October - 13 November
People's History Museum
The People's History Museum presents Memories a new exhibition exploring generations and journeys in relation to migrant communities settled in Cheetham Hill, North Manchester.
Paintings by J Chuhan respond to people and the sense of an interior life rich in experiences within the everyday environment of shifting cultural heritage. The paintings will be complemented by screenings of Presence, a short film by Richard Creed revealing memory as a contemplative act distilling notions of identity.
A series of illusory moments based on a solitary presence in a room ask questions about the self through various forms of imagined states such as dreaming and the sub-conscious. Click on link below to see an exclusive clip.
The exhibition also features the new ATM11 film South Asian Whispers, curated by Lwimbo Kunda which retells stories of migration from the area’s South Asian communities, piecing together individual and collective voices and combining archive film with contemporary footage.
